Fitness Blog for Brides!

December 15, 2009

What’s the first thing a bride does when she gets engaged? I can tell you that most I talk to go into weight loss mode! How many times have you said to yourself, “I need to get fit”, “I want to have amazing arms for that strapless dress”, “I need a bikini body for my honeymoon”?

Well, help is here! I had the amazing opportunity to speak to Brad Bishop, one of the owners of Synergy Exercise Clubs in Waltham, MA (www.synclubs.com). Brad shared with me his expert tips on how to get fit for your wedding and maintain that weight loss after wedded bliss sets in!

When asked for the Top 5 tips for brides looking to get in shape for their wedding, Brad responded with these great tips:

1) Be absolutely sure you are training every major muscle group in your body. This will elevate your resting metabolism so you will be burning more calories at rest.

2) Stay consistent with your cardiovascular workouts for increased calorie burning.

3) Try experimenting with interval training which will give an added boost.

4) Keep the majority of your food intake to plants and animals. Try to avoid foods that are man-made. The “cleaner” it is the better.

5) Join a gym or hire a trainer. This will keep you motivated and give variety in your workouts so you don’t get bored. (PS: If any of you live or work near Waltham, MA, check out the website, www.synclubs.com, for info on how to join Syn.)

When asked when a bride should start thinking about entering into a fitness program and how she can work fitness into her busy planning schedule, Brad responded with “ASAP”. He indicates that making physical changes are not easy and that it takes time, hard work, and dedication. The key to success for a busy bride? Schedule appointments! Put gym appointments in your blackberry or planners and keep it a priority! Did you know there are 168 hours in a week? How many of you have free time to allocate 6 hours per week for fitness? I’m guessing all of us!

So for all of you brides looking to get in shape: Stay consistent, get to the gym, hire a trainer, get a workout buddy! Whatever works for you that get you in the gym is a successful workout! Many thanks to Brad, Tony, Sean, and Dan at SYN Club for motivating all of us to work out every day!
